What can I expect with my teeth cleaning?

Our hygiene cleanings are extremely thorough. We set aside 1 hour for our patients which includes 45 minutes of light and gentle hand scaling, teeth polishing and flossing.

Kathleen is an expert at removing tartar which is also known as calculus.  Tartar is hardened plaque that has been left on the tooth for some time and is now firmly attached to the tooth surface. Calculus forms above and below the gum line and can only be removed with special dental instruments.  Bigger problems arise if plaque stays on your teeth and hardens into tartar. It can form in a little over a day, and once it’s there, only a dentist or dental hygienist can remove it.

Towards the end of your cleaning, Kathleen will do some teeth polishing which will remove the stain and plaque that is not otherwise removed during tooth brushing and scaling.

The rest of the 10-15 minutes, Kathleen will spend time with you to assess the overall health of your gums and teeth. She will also go over any patient concerns, education and potential treatment plans.

While at our office, we make sure that you receive the highest level of service and ensure that Kathleen’s hygiene work is of the highest quality. To ensure that you maintain great oral health, her level of quality needs to extend into your personal oral hygiene routine. She can help you establish a dental hygiene routine that will keep your teeth healthy and white. If you have any questions about your current hygiene plan please feel free to ask her any questions. She loves to educate and is very passionate about it.

Give our dental hygienist a try. She is serious about getting your mouth clean and your teeth as smooth as a mirror.
