Our hygiene cleanings are extremely thorough. We set aside 1 hour for our patients which includes 45 minutes of light and gentle hand scaling, teeth polishing and flossing.
Tartar is hardened plaque that has been left on the tooth for some time and is now firmly attached to the tooth surface. Calculus forms above and below the gum line and can only be removed with special dental instruments. Bigger problems arise if plaque stays on your teeth and hardens into tartar. It can form in a little over a day, and once it’s there, only a dentist or dental hygienist can remove it.
Towards the end of your cleaning, our hygienist will do some teeth polishing which will remove the stain and plaque that is not otherwise removed during tooth brushing and scaling.
The rest of the 10-15 minutes, she will spend time with you to assess the overall health of your gums and teeth. She will also go over any patient concerns, education and potential treatment plans.
While at our office, we make sure that you receive the highest level of service and ensure that our hygiene work is of the highest quality.
